Apply for a Day of Climate Grant
Develop hands-on, interactive curriculum for learners around the world!
We invite members of the MIT community (faculty, students, staff, and affiliates) to propose ideas for interactive, hands-on learning activities inspired by climate action. The Day of Climate grants provide funding to develop curriculum activities that will be used widely by elementary, middle, and high school learners. Accepted proposals will also be responsible for creating and facilitating teacher professional development for educators and developing guidelines for adapting curriculum for other age groups. Curriculum may be modified for use in MIT summer programs and for use in educational projects around the world.
Who Can Apply: MIT faculty, students, staff, and affiliates
Grant Amount: This year, grants range from $10k to $20k
Timeline:
- October 5: Submission Deadline
- Mid-October: Grant Awardees Announced
- December to March: Playtesting of Curriculum Activities

Interactive and Hands-on Curriculum Activities
Curriculum activities must be interactive, hands-on, and foster creative learning.
All submissions should make connections to climate science/action and can reference a number of resources, including:
- United Nations Sustainable Development Goals including Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) and Climate Action (SDG 13)
- MIT Climate Portal
- The MIT Climate Project (See the 6 missions),
- United States Environmental Protection Agency
- Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS):
- HS-ESS2-4: Students use models to describe how energy flow affects climate
- HS-ESS3-5: Students analyze geoscience data and climate models to forecast climate change impacts

- UNESCO’s Greening Curriculum Guidance
Please note: Proposals that make connections with MIT research will be given greater attention.
Curriculum activities can be designed for elementary, middle, or high school learners and for any length of time. All curriculum activities will be made open source or otherwise available via a Creative Commons license.
