Preparing Students in Nature-Based Climate Solutions Through Stakeholder Engagement and Remote Sensing Analysis
This curriculum introduces students to nature-based solutions for climate change. In module 1, students review a refresher on climate change and its effects as well as proposed solutions to climate change. In module 2, students learn about various types of nature-based solutions and their constraints. In module 3, students role play as stakeholders for a local nature-based solution, and they must come to a compromise for a plot of public land in their town. In module 4, students examine satellite imagery to brainstorm potential nature-based solutions for urban heat mitigation. By the end of this module, students should understand the need for nature-based solutions; the constraints for implementing various types of nature-based solutions, including geographic feasibility and competing stakeholders; and the use of remote sensing to examine geographic feasibility for nature-based solutions.
